Journal Entry #1

March 2nd, 2011

Dear Diary,

This is Katarina Bishop writing.  I am very stressed up right now.  I am having a lot of trouble with my father and also Arturro Tacomme.  My father has apparently “stolen” 5 paintings from Arturro Tacomme.  I am supposed to return all of the paintings in 19 days!!  How can I do that? I’m only a teenager for goodness sakes!  But… Hale is helping me… which is really GREAT!!!  He is looking even better lately.  I am having a lot of trouble getting on his good side though.  Ever since Gabrielle has been around he has been eating out of the palm of his hand.  They are little two little love birds!

Anyhow, I need to think about how I’m going to solve this painting problem.  I think that I will go back to Uncle Eddie, and talk to him about getting more help.  He doesn’t seem to think going after these paintings is a good idea…. But I need to save my father!  My father is in danger and I cannot let him get hurt!

I am very worried that I will not be able to find and return all 5 paintings in 19 days!  Although I have a hunch that Arturro may have stolen the pictures in the first place.

Uh-oh, I have to go Gabrielle is coming and I don’t want her to see all my private writing!

Till we meet again,

K.B

Weird and Wacky Words

Weird and Wacky Words!
Kimberley Kerr
Private Collection: A private collection is a collection of something that is own by a citizen that is not on display in a museum it is in the citizen’s private home or show room.
Chelovek Pseudonima: The true thief is Visily Romani, whose name is a “Chelovek Pseudonima,” or an alias that old crime families used “when they were doing things that were too big, too dangerous—things they had to keep hidden . . . even from each other.” Carter, who loves movies and has dabbled in screenwriting, based the “Chelovek Pseudonima” concept on two ideas from Hollywood. [1]
Interpol Officer: Interpol, whose full name is the International Criminal Police Organization – INTEPOL, is an organization facilitating international police cooperation. It was established as the International Criminal Police Commission in 1923 and adopted its telegraphic address as its common name in 1956. [2]

Thief: A thief is someone who steals or takes other people’s possessions without permission.

Phony Story: A phony story is a story that is not true.  It is made up to get the story telling out of a certain difficult spot.

Important Words form the Heist Society

Important Words from the Heist Society
Written By Madison Broader                                                                                                2.23.11

Arturo Taccone page 72

That word is important because the whole story seems to be revolving around him this moment. Also he states that he is just like Kat.

Family Businesses page 64

This word is important because Kat left the family business for 3 months, and no one will let her forget it.

Steal page 36

This is the main word in his story. Everything was stolen, whether it was right or wrong.

Mother page 31

The author doesn’t say much about Kat’s mother. It seems like a sensitive topic for Kat. I think her mother will play an important part in this book as it goes on.

Heist Society

Heist Society Discussion Question!

Who is Hale and what role does he play in the Heist Society?
Answer: Hale is Kat’s family friend.  The role he plays is that he helps get Kat back into the art robbing business.

What Does Arturo think of Kat?
Answer: Arturo thinks that Kat is just like him.

What is Kat’s cousin’s name and why is Kat jealous of her?
Answer: Kat’s cousin’s name is Gabrielle.  Kat is jealous of her because she thinks that Hale has a crush on her because she is beautiful and graceful, whereas Kat is more of a tom boy.  The reason that this makes her jealous is because she has a crush on Hale.

Why do you think Kat wants to clear her father’s name if he is so cruel and cold hearted to her all the time?
Answer:  I believe that Kat wants to clear her father’s name because he is family and she loves him.  I think that another reason that she wants to clear his name is so that he does not get hurt by Arturo.

Heist Society - Summar of Chapter 1 & 2

Heist Society
February 14th, 2011

Currently in the Heist Society, Katarina has been accused of committing a fraud.  This fraud is placing the headmaster’s 1958 Porsche Speedster, atop the main fountain in the front of the school.  They have proof or so they think, of Kat committing the fraud.  Even though she insists that she has not done so.  The proof that they have is, a black and white security camera video showing someone in a black hoody, and her Colgan student card blown up on screen.  The Colgan school board then decided that she did commit the crime and that she had to be expelled.
Once they expelled her a long black stretch limo picked Kat up.  In the back of the limo was W.W. Hale the fifth.  He was a family friend.  The truth was that Hale committed the fraud!  Is this true?  Yes, Hale admits to Kat that he committed the fraud of putting the headmaster’s 1958 Porsche Speedster atop the fountain.  He told her that the reason he did this was that he had a job for her, a job he knew that she wouldn’t be able to resist.  What could this job be? More theft cases for Katarina to complete?  It couldn’t be she was out of the family business, or so she thought.  Would Katarina take the job from Hale,or not?  Kat would have to really think about this job.

My feelings on these events are that they do not make complete sense in the order that they came, I believe that they should have had Hale talk to Kat about the job before the fountain fraud.  I think that it should have been laid out this way because then it would have made more sense in saying that at first she did not want to do the job, because she was done with crime.  Then after she supposedly “committed” the crime, it would seem that perhaps she did want to do the job.

My feelings on the characters are that they are very interesting, I think that they fit the book well.  I also think that maybe the author should have given us a little more information on Kat and her family, before they introduced Hale.  I do not really understand who Hale is or where he came from.  That is something that is confusing me.

“Art, he does a lot of things, but he specializes in art.”  - Katarina Bishop
I think that this quote is important to the book because it tells you a little bit about Kat’s father.  This quote tells us that her father does something that is mostly involved with art.
